MemeMates guides

Practical guides to creating memes, setting up your profile, and taking part in the community.

Four guides by the MemeMates team
01

Start a conversation with a shared meme

A meme gives people something specific to respond to. Instead of a general hello, share a joke about a film, game, or everyday situation you both recognize.

Start by browsing the community feed and reacting to posts you enjoy. Open a creator’s profile to see more of their posts, moodboard, and music anthem. Those details can help you decide whether you want to connect.

  • Pick a meme that fits an interest you share.
  • Add a short comment about what made you laugh.
  • Leave room for the other person to respond at their own pace.

A shared laugh is a starting point, not proof of compatibility or a promise of friendship. Optional messaging opens only after both people agree to connect.

See how MemeMates works or read the connection safety guide.

02

Build a profile from your interests

Your MemeMates profile can include a bio, interests, favorite movies, a music anthem, memes, and a moodboard. You can start with the essentials and add more as you use the app.

Choose details that give other people something to talk about: a film you keep quoting, a music track you like, or the kind of meme you save for your group chat.

  • Use a short bio if it helps explain what you enjoy.
  • Choose a music anthem you want people to hear.
  • Curate a moodboard that reflects your interests without revealing private information.

A profile does not need to cover every part of your life. Avoid posting your home address, contact details, or other information you do not want the wider community to see.

Explore the moodboard tools and our Privacy Policy.

03

Make a meme with a clear punchline

Start with a photo or meme template and one idea. Add a caption that is easy to read on a phone, then use the layered editor if you need stickers, drawing, cropping, or a different layout.

  • Keep the main caption short enough to read at a glance.
  • Use contrast between the caption and its background.
  • Check the crop so the part that makes the joke work stays visible.
  • Preview your meme before you export, share, or post it.

You can try a captioned AI template as a starting point and edit the result to fit your joke. Check it before sharing: a generated caption may miss the context or say something you did not intend.

Use material you have permission to share and follow the Terms of Service and Safety Standards.

Explore the meme editor. If a tool is confusing, tell the team what happened.

04

Stay in control of community connections

Messaging in MemeMates is optional and opens after both people agree to connect. Conversations use named profiles. MemeMates does not offer anonymous or random stranger chat.

You decide whether to connect, continue a conversation, or leave it. A familiar profile or shared meme taste does not establish someone’s identity or make it safe to share private information.

  • Keep personal contact details and sensitive information private.
  • Use blocking and reporting tools when an interaction makes you uncomfortable.
  • Do not feel obliged to keep chatting or move a conversation off the app.

Read the Safety Standards for reporting guidance. If you need help with an account or technical problem, contact Customer Support. For an immediate danger or emergency, contact your local emergency services.

See the app FAQ for answers about messaging and community features.
